Expanded index

Introduction

Despite his books containing an index there is none in his DVDs and certainly no cross-referencing index covering all his books. Searching for a particular animal like giraffes, elephants, or even seals, presently, it would only be logical to look at the ‘Life on Earth’ series as well as ‘Life of Mammals’ but where to go beyond that is anyone’s guess. I am compiling my own index for the material commercially available. This index would include all three versions of Life on Earth (Reader’s Digest and 40th Anniversary one as well as the original version). Some of the material included may be based on my own private collection (for instance programmes of Wildlife on One) so it will be referred to as television (not DVD).

Abbreviations used in this index are as follows: ep? =episode number, for television programme, ch? (chapter number, for book), p? (page number). For the first three books an enlarged Readers Digest (rd) version was also published. References to rd versions are in italics. Bold face indicates pages with photographs.

This will start with the animals included in the Dynasties series (being the most recent one), but will be expanded. Just like Attenborough’s first series concentrated on animals almost exclusively the index will also first focus on animals. Like his series were expanded to include environments (Living Planet) and behaviour (Trials) so may this index.
